Hankuk Fiber, a local company in Miryang City, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), focusing on 'technology exchange and cooperation' to discover joint projects and promote mutual development.

Based on the MOU, which was attended by officials including Hankuk Fiber CEO Lee Jin-gwang and POSTECH President Kim Moo-hwan on the 13th, the two parties agreed to utilize their human resources, including professors and researchers, to discover joint R&D projects and expand research in the field of new materials. Hankuk Fiber, a composite materials specialist, will contribute its advanced technology research, while POSTECH will leverage its strengths in industry-academia cooperation.

Furthermore, it is expected that a new paradigm will be established in the composite materials market if the automation of the composite material manufacturing process using robot control technology can be achieved, moving beyond the current labor-intensive methods.

Hankuk Fiber CEO Lee Jin-gwang stated, "We anticipate that this MOU will be an important opportunity to enhance our corporate competitiveness by researching automation technology for the composite material manufacturing process. We look forward to significant mutual development by applying POSTECH’s outstanding research achievements in materials science to our business fields."

Meanwhile, Hankuk Fiber operates various businesses utilizing composite materials, including defense and aerospace, fiberglass composite pipes, and interior/exterior materials for rail vehicles. The company is striving to leap forward as a leading enterprise in the next-generation composite materials sector, based on best-in-class technology achieved through continuous change and innovation.
