The nation's top composite material specialist, Hankuk Fiber, is participating in the Defense Expo Korea (DX Korea 2022), which is being held at KINTEX in Ilsan from the 21st to the 25th of this month.
DX Korea, celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, has expanded beyond the previous exhibition (2020), featuring 350 companies from 50 countries (totaling 1,350 booths). During this period, Hankuk Fiber will introduce its composite material products based on its technological expertise in manufacturing core components for the Korean-style three-axis system (Korea's 3-axis defense system).
Hankuk Fiber was designated a defense industry company in 1978 and has been recognized for its contributions to the development of Korea's defense industry, receiving awards such as the National Defense Quality Management Award and the Presidential Commendation for the successful launch of the Naro rocket. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the company operates diverse businesses utilizing composite materials in defense, aerospace, fiberglass composite pipes, and interior/exterior materials for rail vehicles.
Following the Naro space launch vehicle—Korea's first—the company was responsible for manufacturing key components of the Nuri launch vehicle, including the payload fairing and the forward fuselage of the first and second stages. To further grow in the future, Hankuk Fiber is diversifying its business areas, including renewable energy, the hydrogen economy, and drone projects, in line with the Green New Deal policy. It is striving to become a leading company in the next-generation composite materials sector, based on superior technology achieved through continuous change and innovation.
At this exhibition, Hankuk Fiber will showcase 19 types of products, including a cylindrical lattice structure, the Next-Generation Corps UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), and the Ulsan Class-I Search Radar, demonstrating its technological capability to manufacture composite core components for the Korean-style three-axis system.
Furthermore, Hankuk Fiber plans to formalize its close business cooperation with the U.S. company AeroVironment (AV) through DX Korea 2022.
AV is a U.S. defense contractor established in 1971 and is a global specialist in the design and manufacture of unmanned aerial vehicles, accounting for over 80% of the world's supply of small tactical drones.
Hankuk Fiber, a composite materials specialist, has been recognized by AV for its excellent technology in manufacturing the fuselage and wings of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, including drones. The companies plan to strengthen their exchange to enhance their relationship and discuss procedures for future parts supply to AV.
A Hankuk Fiber official stated, "DX Korea 2022 is the best event to gauge the current status of K-Defense and confirm global defense industry trends. We will use this event to prove Hankuk Fiber's unique technology and competitiveness."
The official added, "As this is a major event with the participation of approximately 350 companies from 50 countries, our goal is to widely promote the excellence of K-Defense to the world and lay the foundation for continuous overseas export achievements."
